4 Popular Online Jobs for Stay-at-Home Parents

Since having two children, life around the SPF household has gotten busier than ever.  This seems to be the case with most families.

While many dual income families can remain so after the birth of the first child, the birth of the second child often necessitates change.  Day care costs are doubled, and one of the spouse’s paycheck may not stretch far enough to make it worth the expense of working outside the home.

If one parent decides to stay home with the kids, she or he can still make money.  When caring for young children, days are busy, but there is plenty of down time because the children nap and also go to sleep early and/or wake up later in the morning.  This time can be used to make a little extra money.

Thanks to the internet, there are plenty of ways that stay-at-home parents are becoming work-at-home parents.  Here are some of the best making money online work-at-home jobs for parents of young children:

Virtual assistant.  With so many busy bloggers looking for someone to help ease the load, you could earn a good living as a virtual assistant.  Jobs might include coordinating with writers, editing posts, and setting a publishing schedule, among other tasks.  Again, with this type of task, you are free to work on your own schedule as long as you get the work done by a certain deadline.

Social media consultant.  Each year, having a social media presence becomes more and more important to bloggers and businesses, big and small.  If you have a knack for Pinterest or spend all of your time on Facebook, this may be the job for you.  Depending on the job, you will need to promote the business across various social media platforms, engage the audience, and possibly respond to customer comments.

Freelance writer.  Do you enjoy writing?  Are you good at catching the reader’s attention and proofreading your own work?  If so, you may be able to find work as a writer.  Becoming a freelance writer is not as difficult as it sounds.  There are plenty of job boards and online forums where you can look for a job.

Even better, while the writing jobs have a deadline, you’re free to work on them when you’re able, which may mean 2 p.m. during nap time or 10 p.m. while the little ones are sleeping.

Online tutor.  Many former teachers stay home with their kids.  Working as an online tutor is a natural fit.  You will need some supplies like a microphone and headset as well as a quiet place to work.  However, you will need to schedule your work when your spouse is home to watch the kids so you won’t be interrupted.  Some online tutoring companies let you work as few as 5 hours a week, while others require more time.

Of course, this is just a sampling of the many online jobs available.  If you’re a stay-at-home parent interested in making some money for your family, there is no reason why you can’t.  There are plenty of online jobs available.
