Green Tip #119: Reusing Cloth

I recently had to finally give in and admit that this once well made tea towel really was no longer useful to dry dishes on account of the holes and threads. However instead of throwing it out, I gave it to Sustainable PF who will use it in the basement to clean up all sorts of dirty messes. I always chuckle to myself when I see rags for sale in a store, why spend money on that when old tea towels and t-shirts and even holey (but clean!) underwear are just as good but don’t cost a thing?!

  1. I’m one of those people who’s always losing one sock in a pair of socks; the odd socks go to the basement where they live on as rags for cleaning my bicycle chain or polishing shoes. Socks work really well for dusting as well; you can put your hand inside and use it as a sort of dusting mitt.

    1. I have once before too SavingMentor. When I was living up north by myself a couple of years ago I did not have any old clothing items and towels to use. Now there are lots!
