Green Tip #173: Free Events

A friend was just telling me about a week she spent in a big city where she attended all sorts of cultural and food events and paid very little money. The money she did pay was for “Give what you can events”. Coincidentally I came across a “What’s Happening” website for our city today, a listing of artsy, musical, food and social events and mostly at no cost. This time of year with friends and family visiting you may want to show them around your city or town but don’t want to spend a ton of money. Look to see if there is a website like the one I found or see if the local library has some events posters up.

    1. We have a free concert every Wednesday and Saturday for a few months – starting Saturday. It is held in the downtown near Little Lake. After the concert there are fireworks which we enjoy (and our dog does not!).

  1. I love free summer events. We have at least a few events every week here. We’ll have to pass up most of those events this year though. Next year, the little guy will be big enough to enjoy them.

  2. This is a really great tip – thanks! I keep meaning to go to more community events in my city that are often free but I just never seem to actually get off my butt and do it.

Maybe this summer I’ll get to go to a few free or cheap things in my community!

  3. I love the free outdoor concerts that happen in the summer. They were a big staple of my childhood and they make me really nostalgic. I’m also liking the small movement back towards outdoor movies.

      1. We still have a couple of drive-in theaters in my area, albeit not free, but it is definitely fun to go park your car and watch two consecutive movies on a massive outdoor screen!
