Green Tip #200: Cooking Outdoors

Wow our 200th Green Tip!!! We are more than half way to our goal of 365 tips…very neat!

One of the things that I love about this time of year is the ability to cook outdoors. While Sustainable PF and I do some cooking outdoors during the cooler months of the year, the summer is really the time we cook at least one dish of every  dinner outside. A big part of why we do outdoor cooking this is that we really do enjoy Sustainable PF’s ever changing and ever delicious burgers or his mouth watering chicken wings, etc. Another part of why like cooking outdoors is that it keeps the heat outdoors. This of course means that you don’t have to run your cooling system (be it fans and/or air conditioning) quite as much which saves on your energy bill. And if you are like us and have an electric oven and a gas bbq, cooking outdoors saves us even more money as the gas cooks food in much less time.

  1. I love grilling and the best part is that it keeps all of the heat out of the house! During really hot weeks we’ll grill a huge batch of veggies and just do sandwiches for the next several days.

  2. The Wife just bought me my first grill for father’s day since mid-June I have been on a BBQing TEAR. Not sure all the red meat is good long term, there are additional benefits of not having to clean the kitchen and running as many dishes through the dishwasher
