I have a bad habit of leaving my little net book on with the screen saver going when I walk away from my computer for a while. A while always ends being longer than I thought and meanwhile the computer is using maximum energy to run. Any time I wander away from the net book now, it’ll be going to sleep.

Good idea. I try to turn mine off in between uses as often as I remember. Not only does it save energy but I also think it prolongs the life of my laptop.
Great tip – I have my computer set to wait 10 min before going into sleep mode. It’s annoying if it turns off while you’re trying to use it!
I also like being able to adjust the power saving settings on my laptop. Making the screen less bright, even while using it, helps preserve a decent amount of energy.
You can set the computer to go to sleep after a few minutes of idle time. The newer laptops are much better at this than the older ones.
Yep! I always either turn the computer off or turn it on sleep mode. It also helps save the life of your computer. Great tip!
